Post-Session: Sensex gains 620 pts led by metal, financials; pharma drags

Domestic bourses ended in green on Wednesday tracking positive global cues. Positive domestic economic data also boosted sentiment.

India's Gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter of the current fiscal logged fastest growth among major economies in the world. According to the government data released yesterday, GDP of the country grew by 8.4% from a year ago. As per the National Statistics Office (NSO) data, manufacturing output increased 5.5% during the period while construction segment grew 7.5% in the second quarter.

Further, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) increased to 57.6 in November from 55.9 in October, signalling the strongest improvement in the health of the sector for ten months. Moreover, the headline figure was well above its long-run average of 53.6.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 57684.79 up by 619.92 points or by 1.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17166.9 up by 183.7 points or by 1.08 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 57846.45 and intraday low of 57346.78 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17213.05 and intraday low of 17064.25

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 934.25,+5.73%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 679.80,+3.46%), State Bank of India (Rs. 475.30,+3.19%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1588.35,+3.07%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7274.75,+2.66%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4607.25,-1.58%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 7324.60,-1.48%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 745.35,-1.14%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 721.00,-1.06%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 2361.40,-0.57%), among others.

Metal index was at 18654.9 up by 437.11 points or by 2.4%. JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 637.00,+4.70%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 137.75,+3.38%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 424.40,+2.97%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 155.80,+2.53%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 102.50,+2.45%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3669 , shares advanced were 2037 while 1474 shares declined and 158 were unchanged.
