Post-Session: Sensex ends 454 pts up led by RIL; realty, pharma gain

Domestic benchmark indices erased early losses to climb higher led by heavyweights and positive sentiments across western peers.

However, concerns over rising inflation were visible in the minutes of the recent FOMC meeting signalling higher chances of an aggressive policy tightening.

Pharma, IT and realty stocks attracted buyers while banking and auto stocks moved against the trend on the day of monthly expiry.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 58795.09 up by 454.1 points or by 0.78 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17536.25 up by 121.2 points or by 0.7 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 58901.58 and intraday low of 58143.86 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17564.35 and intraday low of 17351.7

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2494.40,+6.10%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 231.30,+1.49%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1722.45,+1.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1558.80,+1.24%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2035.00,+1.14%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 959.10,-1.27%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7569.95,-1.23%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 750.90,-1.22%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2349.85,-1.12%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 680.00,-0.75%), among others.

Realty index was at 4114.5 up by 75.33 points or by 1.86%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 467.25,+7.13%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 496.45,+3.00%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2240.00,+2.70%), Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 469.80,+0.96%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1046.00,+0.95%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3709 , shares advanced were 2259 while 1303 shares declined and 147 were unchanged.
