Pre Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to open positive; HDFC Bank shares in focus

Indian domestic indices are likely to open on a positive note on Thursday taking cues from the results of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 due today. Asian shares were stuck in the red on Thursday amid worries the Sino-US trade conflict was fast morphing into a technology cold war between the world’s two largest economies. Wall Street’s major indexes dipped on Wednesday as inflamed trade tensions between the United States and China weighed on investor sentiment. A day after Washington’s temporary easing of curbs against Huawei Technology Co Ltd provided respite to US stocks, reports that the White House could impose restrictions on another Chinese technology company rattled US stocks anew. Back home, bullish trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for May delivery, which were trading at 11,834.50, up by 54.50 points or 0.46 per cent, at 10:58 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a positive start for local bourses. On the macro front, the Reserve Bank of India may not increase the age limit for the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of banks from the current 70 years, according to a media report. On the earnings front, as many as 103 companies will declare their results for the quarter ended March later today which include names like IGL, Ramco Industries, Sun Tv, and Religare Enterprises among others. On the corporate front, HDFC Bank board approved sub-division of equity shares of bank in ratio of 1:2. Rating agencies are in the dark about the fate of Yes Bank loans to two Essel entities. The 30-share index settled at 39110.21 up by 140.41 points or by 0.36 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11737.9 up by 28.8 points or by 0.25 per cent.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 909874 with a total turnover of Rs. 50557.30 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 5315178 with a total turnover of Rs. 409192.40 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 747861 with a total turnover of Rs. 44252.09 Crore.

As on May 22, 2019 the FIIs stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 7068.71 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 634.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5508.28 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 430.26 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1560.43 Crore and Rs. 203.74.
