Indian benchmark indices ended Wednesday's session with minor gains amid volatile trade as investors turned cautious on the eve of the Lok Sabha 2019 election outcome. Among sectors, except IT and FMCG other sectors ended higher led by bank, auto, infra, energy, pharma and metal. Foreign institutional investors net bought equities worth Rs 1,185.44 crore on Tuesday, while domestic institutional investors sold shares to the tune of Rs 1,090.32 crore, provisional data available with stock exchanges showed. Meanwhile, the Indian rupee appreciated marginally to 69.68 against the US dollar. Brent crude, the global benchmark, was trading at USD 71.72 per barrel, higher by 0.64 per cent. Globally, bourses in Asia ended on a mixed note, while those in Europe were trading in the green in early deals. Among individual stocks, IndusInd Bank was the biggest gainer rallying 4.84 per cent.
The 30-share index settled at 39110.21 up by 140.41 points or by 0.36 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11737.9 up by 28.8 points or by 0.25 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 39249.08 and intraday low of 38903.87 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11784.8 and intraday low of 11682.4.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1517.55,+4.84%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 420.65,+2.92%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 85.35,+2.71%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3049.05,+2.29%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 336.85,+1.83%), among others. On the flip side, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 137.70,-2.34%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 299.55,-1.88%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2082.75,-1.25%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 182.10,-1.03%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1766.15,-0.97%), among others.
Among sectors, PSU index was at 7510.8 up by 68.3 points or by 0.92%. Allahabad Bank (Rs. 47.85,+6.10%), IFCI Ltd. (Rs. 10.39,+4.63%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 100.90,+4.24%), Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd. (Rs. 60.60,+4.03%), ITI Ltd. (Rs. 93.80,+3.76%),. On the other hand, FMCG index was at 11694.26 down by -99.16 points or by -0.84%. Chaman Lal Setia Exports Ltd. (Rs. 69.70,-3.33%), Agro Tech Foods Ltd. (Rs. 520.00,-3.14%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd. (Rs. 210.05,-2.51%), G M Breweries Ltd. (Rs. 503.00,-2.30%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd. (Rs. 114.35,-2.26%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2898 , shares advanced were 1435 while 1253 shares declined and 210 were unchanged.
