Post Session: Bulls rule D-Street as Sensex ends 732 pts higher

Driven by fall in crude prices and the recovery in rupee, the Sensex on Friday posted its biggest single-day gain in 19 months, soaring over 700 points as global markets rebounded after two straight sessions of losses.

The rupee strengthened 53 paise to 73.59 (intra-day) against the US dollar in the forex market.

After opening on strong footing, the Sensex advanced to hit a high of 34,808.42 on buying momentum after retail investors returned to the market. It later gave up some of the gains, but still ended notably higher by 732.43 points.

The 30-share benchmark ended at 34733.58 up by 732.43 points or by 2.15 % per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10472.5 up by 237.85 points or by 2.32 per cent. During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 34808.42 and intraday low of 34279.78 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10492.45 and intraday low of 10322.15.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7283.05,+5.89%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 768.80,+5.29%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1169.40,+4.87%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 278.75,+4.56%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2634.00,+4.35%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1918.40,-3.10%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 101.15,-0.54%), among others. Among the sectors, Auto index was at 20419.72 up by 787.02 points or by 4.01%. Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 23952.05,+7.47%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7283.05,+5.89%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 768.80,+5.29%), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 216.30,+5.13%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2634.00,+4.35%),.

On the flip side, IT index was at 14299.14 down by -114.56 points or by -0.79%. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1918.40,-3.10%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 984.65,-2.35%), MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 960.00,-2.15%), Majesco Ltd. (Rs. 472.00,-1.44%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 1012.55,-1.41%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3023 , shares advanced were 2150 while 707 shares declined and 166 were unchanged.
